Abstract A pot experiment was carried out at the Agricultural Research Station of Sakha. During winter 2008 season to study the suitability of Bahariya Oasis soils for producing some vegetable crops under drip fertigation system. Randomized complete block design with three replicates were performed. The first factor was arranged for 3 crops i.e.; pea (Pisum sativum, L.) cv. master P, onion (Allium cepa, L.) cv. Giza 20 and lettuce (Lactuca sativa, L.) cv. Local Romaine, The second factor was occupied with 2 organic fertilization levels (unfertilized and fertilized with organic manure, FYM) Finally, the third factor was occupied with 4 NPK fertigation levels (Without NPK fertigation dose, 50%, 100% and 150% of recommended NPK fertigation dose). Data revealed that there were markedly differences between average of total nitrogen, available phosphorus and available potassium contents (mg kg-1 soil) in soil as affected by crop types i.e. lettuce, onion and pea crops, organic manure and NPK fertigation treatments during winter 2008 season. The highest mean values of dry shoots and roots weights (g pot-1) were obtained from 150% of recommended NPK fertigation dose in combination with fertilized lettuce, onion and pea with organic manure (FYM) at harvest stage. Meanwhile, the lowest means of dry shoots and dry roots weights (g pot-1) were obtained from untreated lettuce, onion and pea at harvest stage. The highest mean values of NPK concentration (%) in shoots and roots were obtained from 150% of recommended NPK fertigation dose in combination with fertilized pea with organic manure (FYM) at harvest stage. Meanwhile, the lowest mean values of NPK concentration (%) in shoots and roots were obtained from untreated lettuce at harvest stage. It is evident that the highest mean value of utilization rate of applied nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium were obtained from fertilized pea with organic manure (FYM) jointly with 150 % of recommended NPK fertigation dose. On the other hand, the lowest mean value of utilization rate of applied nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium were obtained from unfertilized onion with organic manure (FYM) in combination with 50% of recommended NPK fertigation dose. The obtained results showed that, each of vegetative growth, production of dry matter and nutrient elements absorption by some vegetable crops (lettuce, onion and pea) grown on the soil of Bahariya Oasis could be improved by mineral fertilizers added through drip irrigation system with addition of organic manure. |
