Abstract

Tow field experiment was conducted at Sakha Agricultural Research Station Farm, during the two growing seasons 2008 and 2009 to study the effect of irrigation level and cultivation method on yield and water parameters for rice (Oryza sativa L.). The site lies at Kafr EL Sheikh Governorate, Middle North of the Nile Delta. Statistical design was split split plot; main plots were allocated to cultivation method of broad casting and transplanting. While sub-plots were assigned to rice varieties of Giza 177 as short duration variety and Egyptian Hybrid 1 as hybrid variety. In addition, sub-sub plots were the irrigation treatments: irrigation as the traditional watering in the area (C1), 75% of traditional irrigation (C2) and according to irrigation based on Ibrahim equation,1981 (C3). The irrigation interval was fixed at 6 days during the whole growing season. The results showed that Seasonal applied irrigation water (I.W.) for rice crop recorded saving water of 881 and 981 m3 between broadcasting and transplanting in Giza 177, but for Egyptian H1 saving 921 and 967 m3 for broadcasting and transplanting methods. And showed also irrigation similar to the traditional watering (C1) in the area is the best regarding plant height for the two varieties under the two cultivation methods. Total seed yield was highly significant affected with irrigation level. For Giza 177 and under broadcasting and transplanting, the irrigation of 75% of traditional (C2) recorded the highest yield 3960 kg/fed., and 4333 kg/fed., in the first season and 3971 kg/fed., and 4266 kg/ fed., in the second season, respectively. But regarding values for Egyptian H1, grain yield recorded 5110 kg/fed., and 5670 kg/ fed., in the first season and 5040 kg/fed., and 5574 kg/ fed., under traditional, respectively. 1000 grains weight takes the same trained of grain yield. On the other hand, for the two methods of cultivation straw yield, length of panicle, number of filled grains and N P K uptake in grains and straw recorded high values under traditional irrigation (C1) in the two seasons for Giza 177 and Egyptian H1. Crop water productivity was highly varied under different cultivation methods, varieties and watering levels. The highest values were recorded under Ibrahim equation in the first season for all treatments but in the second season 75% of traditional (C3) recorded the highest value.
