Abstract

 The investigation includes the results of large scale sets of experiments carried out in order (1) to find out an appropriate low and high concentrations of NaCl, (2) to find out the appropriate optimum concentrations of the used compatible osmolytes, antioxidants and hormone-like endogenous regulators, and (3) to compare the attempted growth and metabolic changes maintained in the two salt-sensitive (Giza 716) and salt-tolerant (Giza 843) cultivars of broad bean seedlings, in response to treatment with low and high salinity levels used either alone or in combination with the optimum concentration of each of the above motioned adaptive (protective) compounds.  Our maintained results for the exogenously applied adaptive compounds lend a strong support to previous observations since all the selected compounds appeared to nullify all adverse effects maintained in response to salinization. The maintained changes in all the determined growth, metabolic and enzymatic components go a long the following sequence of adaptive compound treatments: SA > ASA > Pr > GSH.
