Abstract

Purpose: clinical and laboratory evaluation of the influence of post and composite restorations on endodontically treated teeth. Materials and methods: Laboratory study: fracture resistance test for 80 endodontically treated teeth teeth divided into four groups according to the post placement was studied while for microleakage test, 60 endodontically treated teeth divided into 2 main groups according to the post placement was evaluated using dye penetration methods. Clinical study: The clinical part of this study was carried out over sixty cavities resorted with composite restorations in forty two patients, having maxillary premolar receiving root canal treatment. These restorations were evaluated The restorations examined according to the modified USPHS criteria immediately after restoration, 6 months, 12 months, 18 months. Results: Laboratory study results Adhesive direct coronal restoration may improve the fracture resistance of endodontically treated teeth with significance of low shrink composite. Clinical study results Direct composite restorations with or without post can be used for restoration of endodontically treated teeth with acceptable clinical performance. Conclusions: All tested restorations have the potential to withstand occlusal forces applied in premolars regions; TCML has an effect on the survival of this type of restorations.
