Abstract Hemostatic defect have been described in cerebrovascular disorders (CVD). Therefore, coagulation studies in CVD may be important and informative in such cases.Thirty patients with acute CVD in addition to 10 normal controls were the subjects of this work. The patients were divided into two groups: a) Patients with thrombotic stroke (16 cases).b) Patients with hemorrhagic stroke (intracerebral hematoma)(14 cases). The present work revealed hemostatic abnormalities in both groups of patients. In thrombotic patients. there were insignificant decrease in platelets count. prothrombin activity. insiginificant shortening in APIT. significant elevation of fibrinogen and FPA. Moreover, assesment of protein C activity revealed insignificant increase in protein C activity in thrombotic patients. As regarding the fibrinolytic activity. it was decreased as evidenced by significant prolongation of euglobulin clot lysis time in thrombotic patients. |
