Abstract

This i n v e s t i g a t i o n was c a r r i e d out 2t t h e Experimental Farm of t h e Faculty of A g r i c u l t u r e , Hafr El-Sheikh ,Tanta U n i v e r s i t y d u r i n g 1980 , 1909 and 1990 seasons. The o b j e c t i v e of t h e p r e s e n t i n v e s t i g a t i o n was t o study t h e e f f e c t of two d i f f e r e n t N - f e r t i l i z e r s i n t h e form of urea and ammonium sulphate on grouth , y i e l d and y i e l d components a s well a s some g r a i n q u a l i t y c h a r a c t e r s of t h r e e r i c e cultivars(Giza 159 , Giza 181 and IR28) grown under t h r e e d i f f e r e n t NaCl salLnization grades . i.e. c o n t r o l without NaC1 a p p l i c a t i o n (SO) ,2 100 (S1) and 200(S2)grn NaCl/rn of main p l o t area. The i n v e s t i g a t i o n was divided i n t o two main p a r t s as follows: A- P r e l i m i n a r y f i e l d experiment: A r t i f i c i a l NaCl f i e l d s a l i n i z a t i o n experiments was c a r r i e d out t o p r e d i c t t h e p r e s e n c e o f s a l i n i t y c o n d i t i o n and s e l e c t t h e optimum s a l i n i z a t i o n grades f o r t h e major f i e l d experiment. n’aC1 c o n c e n t r a t i o n (0 , 50 , 100 , 150 ,200 , 250 , 300 , 350 , 400 , 450 and 500 g NaCl / m2 of experimental f i e l d a r e a ) was applied to good i s o l a t e d p l o t s and enclosed by f o r t i f i e d p l a s t i c borders. The p l o t s were kept from t h e begin up t o t h e end of experiment (75 days) a t s a t u r a t i o n s t a t e . S o i l samples were taken , t h e first sample was taken one day a f t e r s a l i n i z a t i o n and t h e o t h e r s were taken p e r i o d i c a l l y with 15 days i n t e r v a l . The E l e c t r i c a l c o n d u c t i v i t y f o r t h e e x t r a c t of t h e s o i l samples was measured and t h e l e v e l s of z e r o , 1 0 0 and 200 gm NaCl / m 2 were t h e optimum f o r s o i l s a l i n i z a t i o n under t h e major f i e l d experiments c o n d i t i o n . B- Major f i e l d experiments: S p l i t - s p l i t - p l o t design with four r e p l i c a t i o n s was used. The t h r e e NaCl s a l i n i z a t i o n grades SO, Sl and S2 ( c o n t r o l w i t h o u t NaCl a p p l i c a t i o n , 10D and 200 g NaCl / m2 of p l o t a r e a , r e s p e c t i v e l y ) were a l l o c a t e d i n t h e main p l o t s . Three c u l t i v a r s (Giza 159 , Giza 181 and IR20) were d e s i g n a t e d i n t h e s u b - p l o t s and t h e n i t r o g e n f e r t i l i z e r s o u r c e s i n t h e form of u r e a and ammonium s u l p h a t e b e s i d e s t h e u n f e r t i l i z e d p l o t s were i n t h e s u b - s u b - p l o t s .
