Abstract

The present i n v e s t i g a t i o n w a s designed t o study the symbiot ic p r o p e r t i e s of some induced mutants i n both -R. t r i f o l i i end -R. leguminosarum i n a s s o c i a t i o n wi th Egypt ian clover (Trif olium a1exandrinum)and faba bean (Vicia faba) , respectively. Another objective of t h i s study was obtaining i n t e r s p e c i f i c conjugant s by carrying out conjugation experirnext between t h e d i f f e r e n t mutznts of both RhizobL’u rn spp. Norever, t h e e f f i c i e n c y of the obtained recombinants on , nitrogen f i x a t i o n compared with the o r i g i n a l s t r a i n s of each species wes investigated i n association with clover and bean. The obtained r e s u l t s coald be summarized as follows: 1- Using two herbicides,i.e, stomp and basagren with the recommended, half and two folds )of the recommended .dose with d i f f e r e n t exposure times did not induce any biochemical mutant s n e i t h e r i n -R. t r i f o l i i B-200 nor i n -R. le,~minosamm P-33 s t r a i n s . 2- Sodium azide was found t o be e f f e c t i v e i n indu-tin,? biochemical mutants i n only -R. trifolii B-200. and no sodium a z i d e induced mutants were obtained i n -R. le~~minosarum. The -R. t r i f o l i i B-200 induced mutants follovring Nal\’ 3 treatments were eight Four mt a n t s f oll~o~~riOn.lgm g/ml and two mutazts following each of 0.15 end 0.20 mg/ml c l a s e i f i e d as follows: 2-a. Using 0.1 mg NdV3 / m l induced f o u r mutants; one w a s a r g i n i n e l e s s a f t e r one hour exposure time with percentage of 1.14, one a r g i n i n e l e s s a f t e r two hours of exposure time w i t h 0.78 percent of the t e s t e d colonies and two mutents with 4.17 percent of the t e s t e d colonies and a f t e r 24 hours of exposure were e r g i n i n e l e s.
