Abstract
Selfed seed of six cotton cultivars belonging to Gossgpium barbadense L., representing n wide range in insects resistance ncmely : Bjhtim 101 (hairy), Baheim 110 (free from gossypol), Giza 69, Menoufi, glmdless Sea Island (strain a) and glandless Sea Isl~xtd (strain b), were crossed in a dinllel pattern and evaluated f o r heterosis, combining abilities, and genotypic variation between ad within cow-t;s, The parents were sown in the 1976 season 2,t &kha Research Station, AgricultumP Research centre, in order to produce all possible B1 hybrids between them. 111 1977 season, hybridization was undertaken agnin t o obtain nore F1 hybrid seeds. The parents and F1 hybrids were evaluated in a randomized coiaplete blocks design w i t h fous replications in 3938 growing season. Data used to study the inhe~itanco~f resist3nce to cotton aphid, thrips, cotton leafworm, jassids, white fly and bolEwsrms and for the identification of the genetic systen, heterosis ad the nature sf gene action and interaction with counts were recorded on p l o t n e.
