Abstract
The diagnosis of the actue stage is suggested by the general malaise, fever, rapid pulse, sometimes dehydration and the local tenderness of the bone. Plain xray is not significant in this stage but bone scanning is helpful in the early detection of the disease. Blood culture is essential and the blood picture shows anaemia,high erythrocyte sedimentation rate and leucocytOSis.The treatment in this stage ~ntails improving t~egeneral condition of the patient by hydration and even fresh blood transfusion, rest of the limb in a splintand
