Abstract Ultrasound of the infant hip has gained acceptance since its introduction by Graf in 1980 it is an easily accessible real-time technique, available at reasonable cost and does not expose the patient to ionizing radiation or require sedatin.The aim of this work is to study the anatomy of the hip joint and to diagnose some hip disorders in neonates and infants by real time ultrasonography this study was performed on fourty infants,twenty cases were presented by clinical hip abnormalities and twenty cases had risk factors for developmental hip dysplasia all the cases were subjected to ultrasonic examination, while twenty cases only were subjected to plain X-ray.Developmental dysplasia of the hip were common in females than males, also common on the left side than righ (L:R= 17:5) the incidence of unilateral to bilateral (18:2) Dynamic ultrasonography was performed on 33 cases, hip instability was detected on 13 cases while four cases only reffered clinically as unstable hip. |
