Abstract

In the present study, three wheat cultivars ( Giza 163, Sakha 8 and Giza 164) and three pea cultivars ( Little Marvel, Vectory Freezer and master Peas) were selected to study the effect of salinity stress and heat shock on their growth criteria and some cellular components in order to examine the extent of genotypic Werences under these stress conditions. The growth of these cultivars was determined by measuring the germination percentage, length of some seedlings parts, fresh and dry weight of the seedlings under three salinity levels (50,150, 250 mM NaCl) for wheat and (50, 100, 200 mM NaC1) for pea at three early developmental growth stages ( radicle appearance, plumule appearance, and first foliage leaf appearance). The cellular components examined were carbohydrate fractions ( monosaccharides, disaccharides and polysaccharides), nucleic acids and total soluble proteins. Also, characterization of the seedling proteins extracted in acetate buffer using SDS-PAGE at two of the early growth stages ( radicle and plumule appearance stages) was studied.
