Abstract
El-Paula area lies about 1200 kms. West of the Red. Sea in the Democratic Republic of the Sudan. It is bounded by Latitudes 11•‹ 00’ - 12O 00’ N and Longitudes 27O 30’ - 2g0 00’ E. The 2 area covers about 18.000 km and cons%itutes the western and south-western p a r t of Kordofan province and partially l i e s in the eastern part of Dwfur province. The main source of the ground water i n the studied area -is the rainfal l . The duration of rainy season and the amount of rainfall increases towards the Equator. The mean annual rainfall is 100 millimeters in the Eorth increasing to 800 millimeters i n the South. Stratigraphically, the subsurface sequence of El- Faula area is dominated by most of the known rock units in the Sudan.
