Abstract

The chelates of azodyes were of interest to many investigators and were the subject of several studies. Many of these chelates were adopted to analytical methods for the determination of some metal ions. The chelation was believed to occur through the hydroxyl groups and the azo centers, thus leeding to the formation of a cyclic compounds. The use of these chelates in analytical chemistry was not limited due to their strong colour reactions. The present studies are devoted to throw more light on azodyes derived from 3-amino- 1,2,4-triazole and p-substituted phenols in addition to their metal chelates. The scope of the present studies is planned as follows : (1) Synthesis and characterization of azo compounds using different spectrophotometric and polarographic methods as well as studying the effect of solvents of different polarities on one free ligand and studying the effect of buffer solutions of different pH values on the electronic absorpition spectra of the free ligands. (2) Spectrophotometric studies on Cu(II)-chelates in solution as well as conductometric titrations. (3) Synthesis and structural determination of solid chelates derived from azodyes with Cu(II) ion from the following points: (a) Detecting the thermal behaviour of the prepared complexes using TGA . (b) Detecting the mode of bonding based on infrared spectral analysis and molar conductance measurements. (c) Knowing their stereochernistry based on: (i) Electronic absorption spectra. (ii) Magnetic susceptibility. (iii) ESR measurements.
