Abstract

rosetta nile branch has a vital importance as an important source of water for municipal, industrial and agricultural. many sources of pollution are poured to rosseta branch, one of them by going to the north at kafr el-zayat city.
three transect were selected to study zooplankton community structure in front of soda & salt and el malya companies. abundance and distribution of zooplankton were affected by both biotic and abiotic factors.
temperature, pH and conductivity seem to play major roles in structure and abundance of zooplankton at the studied area. the community composition of zooplankton community was represented by four main groups namely, rotifera, copepodam cladocera, and protozoa.
rotifera is the most important group of zooplankton in this study, contributing 93.43% of the total population density with an average of 405,175 org.m. rotifers community consists of 53 species dominated mainly by brachionus, keratella, epiphanes, trichocerca and polyarthra genera.
copepoda was the second abundant and common group, forming 2.89% of the total zooplankton, with an average of 12,525 org.m . seven copepod species, dominated mainly by ectocyclops rubescens and eucyclops speratus, were recorded during the present study.
cladocera came next to copepoda, contributing 2.1% of total zooplankton density, with an average of 9,125 org.m . eleven species, dominated mainly by bosmina longirostris, leydgia acanthocercoides and alona rectangula were represented the communiy of cladocera in the area under study.
