Abstract

The rapid growth of the tourism and hospitality industry in Egypt has created an increasing demand for the provisions of employees who are fully aware of their health awareness. Health awareness has been among the most influential management concepts in hospitality for the past thirty years. It is the key to providing super customer service in the ultra- competitive service industry. The present study provides an overview of the health awareness of housekeeping employees in hotels and its prospective impact especially upon service quality.
The population of the research was four and five-star hotels in greater Cairo, according to the Egyptian Hotel Guide (2006), there are 43 four and five-star hotels in greater Cairo. Two form of in-depth interview and personal observation checklist was designed and reviewed by academics and professionals. 29 copies of this in-depth interview were circulated,the response rate was 67, 4%, and 31 copies of personal observation checklist were obtained., The response rate was 72.1%. Most of hotels being surveyed highlighted that health awareness procedures in four and five-star hotels are still below the desired standard. Besides, housekeeping managerial skills in four-star hotels are poor. On the other side, results obtained from five-star hotels highlighted that the applicable health awareness procedures are more positive. Than proactive. Specific recommendations were suggested concerning the issue being researched.
