Abstract

The endocrine system regulates body composition, fat deposition, skeletal mass, muscle strength, metabolism, bodyweight and physical well being. Multiple endocrine changes evolve with aging in all species and not surprising, some of the physiological manifestations of aging are related to the effects of declining hormone levels.
PADAM is associated with a decrease in peripheral levels of T, DHEA(s), GH, IGF-l and M. There is also a concomitant increase in LH and FSH. In addition, SHBG increased with age resulting in further lowering the concentration of b-T.
The aim of this study was to study the changes of total T, bT, DHEA and M in 120 healthy men aged 0- 70 years. They were divided into 8 groups according to age. Each group included 15 healthy persons. The hormones were studied by ELISA technique.
The results showed that total T level increased in-groups 2 and 3 and declined from group 4. The lowest concentration in adults was in group 8 which showed a negative significant correlation with age (r=-0.556;P<0.05). Morever, the level of total T in group 8 was 50 % of its peak level in group 3. Bioavilable testosterone also increased in groups 2 and 3The lowest concentration in adults was also in group 8. Its level could detect PADAM while total T of the same group couldn’t detect it. The b-T level in this group was only about 32 % of its peak level in group3. Moreover, when comparing the young adult level of total T and bT with other age groups, a significant comparison begins in group 5 in b-T. While, it begins to be significant in total T only with group
