Abstract

pelvic recurrence is an ominous event after curative resection of rectal cancer and is rarely amenable to re-resection by conventional methods.
This retrospective study presents the results of treatment of 270 patients with operable rectal cancers, selected from cases with rectal cancers, treated in N.C.I, and Surgery department of Faculty of Medicine, Menoufia University during the period between January, 1987 to December, 1995.
Prior to treatment all the records of 270 patients were reviewed, for Epidemiological data including age, sex where there were 152 males & 118 females with a ratio of 1.25: 1 their age ranged from 18-82 years, with an averge of 44 ± 1 3 years. Also clinical data were obtained as, clinical picture, rectal examination and abdomino—pelvic examination. radiological examination was carried out as: chest x-ray abdominal & pelvic ultrasound and C-T scan at follow up. Endoscopic examination was also done which shows gross picture of the lesion and site of the lesion in relation to anal verge.
