Acne vulgaris is a multifactorial dermatological disease affectin pilosebaceous follicles. Acne affects approximately 80 percent of al individuals. It is a near-universal skin disease affecting mostly th adolescent population, with slightly earlier onset in girls compared t(boys. Its clinical presentation ranges from a mild comedonal form U severe inflammatory cystic acne. .Acne occurs primarily in the oily areas ol the skin, mostly on the face, back, and chest.
Currently, it is believed that acne is a multifactorial disease in which clinical expression depends on the interaction of several factors. It has a complex etiology, involving abnormal keratinization, hormonal function bacterial growth, and immune hypersensitivity Genetic predispositiol foods and fatty acids may also be implicated. However, there are sti several areas in the pathogenesis of the disease that remain murky a although previous research has provided a better understanding of pathogenic factors, there is still a great deal to be learned.
There are also many lines of clinical evidence suggesting components of the nervous system, such as psychological and neuroi factors, can influence the course of acne. The disease has been repor be initiated and/or exacerbated as a result of emotional or psycho stress, suggesting the involvement of neural-derived factors i pathogenesis of acne.
Noxious stimuli may directly activate the peripheral endii primary sensory neurons generating impulses that are conveyed cas well as, peripherally through antidromic axon-reflexes.
