Abstract In our study we collected 15 patients with different pleuro- pulmonary infections, and we searched for the causative organisms in the specimens collected from these patients, either by transtra- cheal or pleural aspirations. This was a trial to screen the efficacy and safety of clinda- mycin in treatment of the different pleuropulmonary infections. Out of the 15 patients, there were 10 patients having bronchie-ctasis, 3 with lung abscess, and 2 with empyema. Although the number of cases is small to be considered for statistical analysis, yet it has given a good idea about the role of anaerobes in pleuro- pulmonary infections, and the role of clindamycin in their treatment Anarobes have already been incriminated in the pathogenesis of different ple’.Jropulmonary infections, and in our study, they were responsible” for 9 cases. As regards the eiiicacy oi clindamycin, m aU the patients there were improvement as regards iradication of the infections, as demonstrated by the symptoms, clinical signs. X-ray picture of chest, and laboratory investigations. As regards safety of the drug, there were no serious side effects reported. Only skin rashes appeared in one case, phlebitis was reported in another case, and nausea and vomiting in another |
