Abstract

Macro-defect free cement (MDF) technology is receiving great attention in the camant applications field, as a result of the outstanding mechanical and chemical properties of the product, where this technology based on the use of one type of water soluble polymer, which is Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) for advanced mixing structures.
The objective of this research is to study the effect of the addition of PVA on the properties of cement.
The modified cement specimens are prepared by mixing cement with different percentages PVA, from 1.5% to 4% -based on cement weight – using different w/c ratios from 0.2 to 0.4, resulting in numerous specimensof Polymer modified cement. The obtained specimens are subjected to a number of experimental investigation.
According to the results obtained from thesetests, it is clear that through there is no linearity for results, but the polymer in general or the PVA in specific has a great effect in improving the properties of cement, where the polymer modified cement, being compared to plain cement, is found to have a high compressive strength, low absorption, as well as high resistance to acid attack, and this in most cases may be useful in a lot of applications related to cement, in addition to the new discoberies which may be related to this point.
