المستخلص

Synchronous generators have been considered as the main parts in power systems. Enormous number of studies has been done to model, analyze and control these machines when connected to large power systems. However, economic consideration in remote regions with small power requirements renders that synchronous generators be operated in stand alone systems. Diesel engines have been found to be suitable prime movers for these systems.
Diesel generators have traditionally been used to supply small power to isolated loads, industrial complexes and marine systems. Also, diesel engine driven generators are needed to supply peak loads for a small duration. Voltage and frequency quality are very important when using diesel generation to supply isolated loads. Many researches have been done implement some control systems to enhance their performance and extend their margin of stability.
This thesis presents, firstly the design of a Fuzzy PI controller for a stand-alone diesel-generating unit. The proposed FLPI controller consists of two parts one in the AVR loop and the other in governor loop. Each of the two parts has two inputs and generates one output. The controller inputs are the voltage error and it’s integral for the AVR part of the controller, and the speed errror and it’s integral for the gevernor part. These are readily measurable quantities leading to a simple controller, which can be easily implemented.
The designed controller is applied and simulation results are obtained in comparative form with obtained for the system equipped with optimal PI controller. Simulation results show that the proposed controller can enhance the system performance even in the presence of severs disturbance.
