Abstract Trying to evaluate the role of LDH, cholesterol and CRP in pleural fluid and its ratio to the serum level to differentiate exudative from transudative pleural effusion, this study was conducted on 40 patients with clinical and radiological evidence of pleural effusion from chest, cardiology, tropical, internal medicine and encology departments, El Menoufiya university hospital. The type of pleural effusion and the underlying aetiology are predetermined on clinical and investigational background. They were classified into 2 groups according to their definite diagnosis: Group I (20 cases) had transdative pleural effusion. Group II (20 cases) had exudative pleural effusion which is subclassified into two subgroups; Group II-A (10 cases of inflammatory origin) Group II-B (10 cases of malignant origin) For all patients estimation of total protein, LDH, cholesterol and CRP in pleural fluid and serum was carried out. |
