Abstract

Weaning infant is an important issue to all mothers and families .As it affects the infant’s health and well being .As the mother is the most responsible one of her infants feeding in our communities and also as the one ”s knowledge attitude affect his practice .So it as very important to study the mothers knowledge ,attitude practice regarding her weaning practice and how this affected her infant ”s growth as his weight , height Hb level and occurance of rickets .Parents frequently ask their family physician about sleep related problems at routine health maintenance visits .Unfortunately improper Weaned infants tend to have more attacks of gastro –enteritis and other health problems in addition to low growth rate regarding those who are properly weaned .
In this study ,we found that waning practice of the mother was influenced by a lot of factors as socio –demographic characters of the mother as their level of education and working but there was no influence regarding mother age .
Also there was a great influence of mother level of knowledge ,attitude and practice on her infant ”s health .There was also a significant difference regarding mother knowledge about weaning practice and BF as its importance duration of exclusive BF ,when to introduce complementary feeds with it and when to completely stop it . But there were no difference in regarding completing BF if she becomes pregnant and presence of certain season in the year for weaning .
Regarding the attitude of the mothers there were a significant difference between mother’s attitude of the properly weaned group and the improperly weaned ones regarding attitude of following up infants growth ,attitude of addition of complementary feeds at 4-6 month and asking for doctors advice about types and quantities but no differences as regarding attitudes of completing BF with pregnancy .
