Abstract

After discussion of the results of our present study we found that laparoscopic exploration of the common bile duct is a feasible, safe and effective approach that carries a low morbidity and mortality for management of choledochlithiasis, weather only suspected or proved. The increasing interest for this laparoscopic approach is due to the development of instrumentations and techniques, allowing the procedure to be performed safely, and it is also the result of the revised role of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), which has been questioned because of its cost, risk of complications and effectiveness. However, many surgeons are still not familiar with this technique, but after our research has been completed, we hope that, with the appropriate training and motivation, LCBDE will become widely used in patients with choledocholithiasis In our present study we found that the success rate was 90% with IOC which proves that laparoscopic cholecystectomy with selective application of cholangiography can be performed with safety and with minimal effect on operative time, costs and incidence of retained stones.Avoiding unnecessary preoperative ERCP in patients with suspected common bile duct stones was the greatest achievement of laparoscopic intraoperative cholangiography as proved to us in our practice.Scince we found that 62.96% of our patients had negative cholangiographic study.
