Abstract

Objective: Assess the effect of treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection on the healing rate of gastric and duodenal ulcers.
Methods: This work was conducted on 30 patients who were divided into three groups: group I (10 patients) with ulcers associated with H. pylori and were treated with triple therapy, group II (10 patients) with ulcers associated with H. pylori and were treated with monotherapy (PPI) and group III (10 patients) with ulcers but without H. pylori infection and were treated with monotherapy (PPI). All of our patients complain from various form of gastrointestinal manifestations.
Results: The healing rate in group I was 90%, 60% in group II and 90% in group III.
Conclusions: We conclude that triple therapy provide an efficient healing of ulcer and relief from ulcer pain than montherapy. Monotherapy is the standard treatment in patients with gastric and/or duodenal ulcers not associated with H. pylori infection.
