Abstract

HCY infection affects more than 200 million people worldwide. It is RNA virus. Its incubation period is 6-10 weeks. Although sub-clinical infection is the rule and only 10-25% reporting an acute illness associated with jaundice, about 80% of. infected persons will remain infected with the virus and progress to chronic hepatitis later. HCY & NA can be detected 1-2 weeks after infection but HeY-Ab appear, 12 weeks after infection. About 60% of hepatitis in Egypt is due to hepatitis-C. The aim of this work is to evaluate the health related quality’ of life in chronic hepatitis C patients with or without cirrhosis using the SF -36 questionnaire which includes different items for evaluation of physical, social and psychological aspects of health. The data recorded by the patient himself/herself reflecting’ the exact condition of these patients. The study was done on wide scale of age from 16-65 years age and including different localities as most of them was from outpatient clinic of liver institute, Menofya University. The main instrument used in our study is the SF-36 questionnaire however 2 other domains are added to SF-36 questionnaire which are referred to as Generic and hepatitis specific scales.
