Abstract For this study, twenty patients with partially edentulous mandibular arch suffering from joint noises ,1 mutation of jaw opening, tenderness to palpation and pain were selected For each patient, clinical examination and radiographic evaluation were performed at the beginning of treatment Then arthrocentesis of TMJ superior compartment (lavage) and estimation of proinflammatory cytokines , glycosaminoglycans and glucuronic acid in synovial fluid were done . These patients were subdivided into two groups:-group I : included ten patients who wear removable partial dentures (RPD) after 7 days of lavage. group II : included ten patients who weai an anterior repositioning splints after 7 days of lavage tor tour weeks .After that removable partial dentures were inserted. The present study was planned to evaluate the efficacy of arthrocentesis in symptomatic TMJ with or without use of anterior repositioning splint.The second objective was to detect glycosaminoglycans and glucuronic acid m the synovial fluid as markers of internal derangement and cartilage destruction . The patients were re-evaluated monthly for six months for clinical and radiographic findings. The collected data were subjeacu to extensive statistical analysis .
