Abstract Complications are an integral component of the outcomes of an intervention such as ERCP. The early recognition of these complications would be highly desirable, on the one hand to plane prolonged follow-up In the hospital and an early therapeutic approach, on the other hand to avoid unnecessary hospital admission. The aim of this work was to access post-ERCP changes in the pancreatic and hepatic functions. This study included 30 patients selected from the outpatient clinic of tropical medicine department, Menoufiya University Hospital for ERCP. They were 15 male (50(Vo) and 15 female (500/0), with a mean age of 52.9 ± 10.74 (range 35-80years) .. All patients were subjected to initial evaluation in the form of history taking, clinical examination, laboratory investigations [CBC, ESR, RBS, blood urea and serum creatinin liver function tests (AST, ALT, ALP, T.bilirubin, D. bilirubin, serum albumin, prothrompine concentration) and serum amylase and lipase] and abdominal ultrasonography. AfterERCP patients were followed up clinically for 48 hours to detect symptoms and signs of complications, together with measurement of serum amylase, lipase and liver function tests at 4 and 24 hours . The results of this study showed that serum amylase and lipase increased significantly after 4 then dropped after 24 hours and become insignificant as compared to pre-ERCP values. And there is no significant change in liver function tests after 4 and 24 hours as compared to pre- ERCP values. |
