Abstract

A number of 72 New Zealand white rabbits of 6 weeks old were used in the present investigation for a period until 12 weeks old, with the aim to study the effects of dietary protein level (CP) and dietary supplementation with Avoparcin, Lacto-Sacc, Kemzyme and Bio-Tonic (natural extracts, medicinal plants) on growth performance, digestibility and nutritive values of ration, carcass characteristics, meat analysis, blood constituents and some economical traits. The results obtained indicate that the group fed 16% protein or supplemented with Bio-Tonic showed the most favourable traits, in comparable with other groups. The live body weight, weight gain, relative growth rate and feed conversion were 2263.75 g, 1465.83 g. 95.75% & 2.92 g feed intake / g body weight gain, respectively for 16% CP group; and 2260.42 g, 1462.5 g, 95.71% & 2.95 g feed/ g body weight gain, respectively for Bio-Tonic group. While, the values in the control group (fed 14% CP) were 2082.33 g, 1284.42 g, 89.17% & 3.40 g feed intake / g body weight gain, respectively. The highest pre-slaughter weight (2020.8 g) and the lowest head weight percentage (5.33%) were recorded in Bio-Tonic group. The dietary protein level (16%) and Bio-Tonic additives significantly (PO.05) improved the meat quality in regarding to its moisture and protein percentages. They exerted their effects on the activation of thyroxine hormones (T3 & T4) secretion.Lacto-Sacc or Kemzyme supplementation showed better results than the control group, in respect of growth performance. They also improved the overall mean of serum T4.
