SUBJECTS AND METHODS
This study was conducted from July 2003 to October 2004 on 50 patients admitted to the National Liver Institute, Menoufiya University with active fundal variceal bleeding diagnosed by upper GIT endoscopy.
Randomly, those patients were divided into two equal groups as follows;
o Group I: was subjected to management with N-butyl-2-cyanacroylate injection sclerotherapy.
o Group II: was subjected to surgical intervention.
All patients were subjected to the following;
1. Full medical history taking.
2. Thorough clinical examination.
3. Complete blood picture: for anaemia, tbrombocytopenia or
i pancytopenia using Sysmex instrument KIOOO TOA
medical electronic company, Japan (Friedman et al., 1985),
4. Liver function tests (ALT, AST, ALP5 GOT, total and direct
