Abstract - 83 - PART VI SUMMARY For this study, one hundred ”Uldf1:fty four sUbjects were r~domly collected. They were classified according to the smoking habit into, non smokers, smokers and ex-smokers. According to smoking index, subjects were further subdivided into mild, moderate and heavy smokers. Gastroscopy was done for each SUbject. Barium meal was found to diagnose better th~ to exclude abnormalities ~d gastroscopy is more reliable in diagnosis. The resulh of our study casted a strong light condemningsmoking as a basic aetiology for esophagogastroduodenal lesions found in gastroscopic eXamination; The reasons put forward are : (1) Normal gastroscopic findings are found mUch more less in smokers thl:\D. non smokers. (2) It was found from our study that whenever the smoking index increases,the incidence ot these esophagogastroduodenal lesions increase. -----_..._~----- |
