Abstract The aim of this study 1s to find out the type ~nd severity ot” bactera<9Jaia afte.r lnte:rvwmtional cardiac catheterization as compared to the diagnostic one. The present stu~y W~$ pQrtorm~d on 4~ paticntg tram cardiology unit of cairo university. Thirty pati~nts underwent tu intervention cardiac c~thBtBrizatlon and 15 p~tients unde~ent to diagnostic cathete.rization. Data collected for each patient inclUde4,ag~. sex, diagnosis and data related to the procedure as ragard~ to duration of catheterization, number of ~atheter used· and post catheterization fever. Blood samples we.re taken to catheterization and after from each patient prio~ catheterization. Eaoh sample ~as subject~d to a~robic and anaerohic blaod cultures. The study show~d that the bacterasmia in pre cathQteri~ atian samples reprasent about 4.4% (intervention cases 5.7\ whil~ diagnostic ca~~S haa no bactaraemia. On the other hand, the post catheterizeti~n bacteraemia was 35.6% (36.7% versus 33.3%. respectivelY). This difference is s~~tistically in~iqni~icant. |
