Abstract A random sample, of 150 primary school aged children in Kalubia, was examined clinically and exclusion of those with organic lesion was done. Samples of their stools and urine were studied for parasitic ova. Blood samples were also studied for detection of anaemic subjects and aetermi- nation of the type of anaemia. Parasitic infestation rate was 66.7%, with mixed in-festations of 2 or more parasites in 74% of the sample. Anaemia was detected in 72.7% of the sample. Micro-cytic anaemia was the most prevalent among our subjects, (57.8%). Both hypochromic and normochromic microcytic anae- mia were nearly equal. A relationship appeared between the number of para-sitic infestation and the presence of anaemia. Again, anae-mia was significantly related to low socio-economic stand-ards. |
