Abstract

SUMMARY
This work was carried out with the aim of
pattern of tympanometric measurements after
myringoplasty and its comparison with the pre
operative hearing function.

subjects were selected from patients presenting to
the ear, nose and throat clinic of the military hosipitals.
30 Patients out of 72, who underwent
myringoplasty were included in this study.

* The criteria of sUbject selection before--surgery was
based on the following :
Simple dry perforation as shown by clinical
examination, conductive hearing loss with normal bone
conduction curve by the aid of audiometry, an intact mobile
ossicular chain and a good eustachian tube function.
* operative data gathered during exploration of the middle
ear concerning the state of the ossicular chain, the state
of tympanic orifice of eustachian tube and the state of
middle ear mucosa.

The study showed the following results:
1- A significant relation was found between post-operative
compliance value on one hand and site of the perforation,
surface area of the perforation and technique of
myringoplasty on the other hand.
2- A significant relation was found between site of the
perfoeration and degree of pre-operative hearing loss.
3- No significant relation was found between pre-operative
hearing loss and post-operative compliance.

10- The presence or absence of the stapedius reflex was
related to the type of tympanogram and nature of pathology
of the middle ear more than post-operative air-bone gap and
hearing gain.
