المستخلص

This study aims at finding a kind of balance and harmony between the Islamic architecture in Egypt throughout in history and the modern Egyptian architecture. This goal is achieved by extracting the values of the Islamic architecture including the solutions it has presented to many environmental problems and its confinement to the Islamic rules in order to create a balance between the modern architecture and our Islamic architectural values. However, this doesn’t mean to go back with our modern architecture to what it was like in the past nor to modernize our architecture by copying or imitating the Western Societies architecture but to take advantage of the modern technology in a way that suits our modern environment and society.
The strategy followed in this research starts by a historical review of the Islamic architecture in Egypt with emphasis on studying three kinds of constructions, which are: religious, residential, and public buildings. This aims at extracting some of the basics of design to which this architecture confined. Listing the most important elements in this architecture that are suitable for modernized use follows this.
Then the study mentions the Islamic core of architecture in order to find stable basis for the design that suits every time and place and helps to set up the modern architectural applications. Many of these applications are mentioned in this study in order to show its negative and positive sides, and can be developed to reach with our islamic architecture to the required goal.
Finally, some of the results and recommendations are presented to be use when developing the modern Egyptian architecture to a level of balance between the technological/scientific advancement and our environmental, religious, and economical conditions. This development may be achieved by making use of the historical study and the study of some modern architectural examples in order to reapply the inherited Islamic architecture values in the modern architecture.
