Abstract

Aim of the work:-
When phosphate precipitates from water, uranium goes with it. As a result, for example, uranium is serious contaminant in phosphate fertilizers that are ubiquitous in crop farming. Although most crops resist uptake of radioactive materials in their leafy (above-ground) components, those crops whose roots are consumed (such as potatoes, peanuts, carrots), are susceptible to contamination by uranium.
The health risks due to uranium based on chemical toxicity exceeds by far the health hazard due to radiation. Radon decay products are dangerous because it is a gas and can easily enter and accumulated in the lungs. So,
The aim of the present work is to :-
1- Study of the natural activity concentration (226Ra, 235U, 232Th and 40K) in phosphate samples from different areas in Egypt (Western Desert, Nile Valley and Eastern Desert).
2- According the geological studies (said, R., 1962), what is the relation between natural radioactivity in geological stable area (Western Desert, Nile Valley) and geological unstable area (Eastern Desert).
3- Development of 222Rn exhalation measurement technique in the laboratory using E-PERM electret.
4- Comparing between different methods of measuring radon exhalation rats from soil as a function of environmental parameters (temp, relative humidity and pressure).
