Abstract Different types of chelating resins were synthesized and used in the removal of heavy metal ions from solutions using batch and column methods. Chelating resins based on crosslinked polyacrylamide were prepared by suspension polymerization of acrylamide and N,N~ methylenebisacrylamide (NNMBA). It was converted to polyvinylamine chelating resins (PVAMI& PVAM2) by Hofmann degradation reaction using sodium hypochlorite and sodium hydroxide. Also, the chelating resins of polyesterurethanes (PEU& CPEU) and polyestenirethaneureas (PEUU& CPEUU) based on I ,3- di (carboxymethoxy ) benzen were prepared. The chemical structures of these chelating resins were confirmed from infrared spectra. The different factors affecting the metal ions adsorption of these chelating resins such as pH, concentration of metal ions, treatment time, amine value, crosslinking and type of chelating resins were studied. 2+ 7± 2+ 2+ 7± 7± 7+ - iferent metal ions (Hg , Cd , Pb , Cu , Zn , Mn~ , Co , and Ni2~ ) were adsorbed on these chelating resins at different pH values ,the data obtained showed that. Generally, the adsorption of metal ions increases with increasing pH. The optimum pH values for adsorption of different metal ions occur in the range 5.0 — 6.8 depending on the metal ion used. The sorption capacity was found between 0.3 and 2.7 mmoi/g resin at initial concentration of (0.005 M) and optimum . |
