Abstract

Ventilation is a necessary part of the environmental control system of broiler houses. Natural ventilation is the most commonly used ventilating system in broiler houses and seems to meet the needs of many farms. Simplicity, low initial cost, and low energy cost are primary factors that make it the most proper type of ventilation. The most common type of natural ventilation is that accomplished by wind induction (wind forces). This aeromotive force is the predominant factor under warm climate conditions as it the situation in Egypt. A full understanding of the wind-induced natural ventilation process requires a data base and engineering knowledge for the relationship between the wind condition (velocity and direction) and the characteristics of broiler houses (regarding windows area and configuration). Therefore, the present work was conducted to study the wind-induced natural ventilation through the physical modelling of a broiler house inside a wind tunnel to acquire these knowledge. Such knowledge can be considered as a spotlight on natural ventilation to convert it from a black box process to a white one.
