Abstract The present investigation was carried out during 1994195 ’and 1995/96 growing seasons at Sakha A~gicultural Research Station. Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate, Egypt. The aim of this research was to: 1. Determining the soil-water-sugar beet relations such as water consumptive use, soil moisture depletion patterns and water use efficiency under the different periods of drought at mid andlor late-season. 2. Find out the convenient rate of potassium fertilization under the drought conditions for optimum yield and quality of sugar beet. 3. Study the effect of drought periods and potassium fertilization on the rnineral composition of sugar beet crop. Kawemera sugar beet variety was the crop of the experiment. Date of sowing was November 15”’ in the 1” season and November Xrd in the 2””eason. Date of harvest was June 5t’’ in the 1” season and June Xrdi n the znds eason. The soil of the experiment in the first growing season was none saline clay soil (ECe = 1.2 1 dS/m and ESP = 9.9 l), whereas in the znd season the soil was clay saline sodic (ECe = 6.72 dS/m and ESP = 16.67). The experiment was arranged in split plot design with four replicates. The main plots were designated to the periods of drought, while the sub-plots were designated to the potassium fe~tilizationr ates. |
