Abstract

The present study comprised twenty Egyption
patients sUffering from extrinsic bronchial asthma and
thirty matched controls. The patients were 11 females
and 9 males, their ages ranged from 9 to 53 years with
a mean of 26.5 years. There was a family history in most
of them ( 16 cases ) and other allergic disorders was
found in 90 % of cases; eczema was found in 40 %;
rhinitis in 30 % and nasal polyp in 20 %.
2- All the asthmatic patients were subjected to the
following investigations
- Detailed clinical assessment.
- Routine laboratory studies including complete
blood picture, stool, and urine examination.
- Plain X - ray chest.
- liLA typing for liLA- A, Band C antigens on
peripheral lymphocytes using the standard microdroplet
lympllocytO”to;:icity tecllnique.
3- Our results demonstrated statistically
significant association between atopic asthma and liLA-B
5
( Relative Risk 6 ) and disassociation between atopic
asthma and liLA-CU2 ( Relative Risk 0.08 ).

Both HLA - AJ and liLA - B17 were increased in patients
than in c~ntrols , however this increase was statistica_
lly insignificant •.
\7e found no sicnificant correlation between HLA
antigens and the clinical severity of asthma.
4- The number of cases is not enoueh to draw final
conclusion , yet the results of this work serve to
demonstrate the important role of HLA _ linked genetic
control in the expression.
