Abstract Summary Flexor tendon injuries of the hand, whctherc , oren or closed bl’COI1H ..’ more common injuries in our present civilisation, they are of great signi ficancc to the patient and the surgeon. It is important to treat such a case to change a handicapped person to a functioning one. The pathological changes after tendon injury, suture or after tendon graft arc important to known the cause of adhesions which limit the free excursion of the tendon. To diagnose a flexor tendon injury of the hand we must take the history, physical examination, X-ray examination and surgical exploration. The hand divided into five zones every zone has its line of treatment, the lines of treatment differ from primary, Secondary suture, tendon graft, Two stage tendon graft, and other methods. Primary suture of cut tendon is the first line of treatment. Many factors affecting primary tendon suture such as type of injury, time of injury and area of hand affected. Many types of tendon sutures are introduced to avoid damaging the central blood supply. When tendon graft is indicated we take the graft from many sources as, palmaris longeus, plantaris tendon. In the last years, two stage tendon graft and recently, tendon prosthesis implant ( total tendon replacement)give a great advancement in management of tendon injuries. |
