Abstract

An interest has been focused on the biological role of diphenolic phytoestrogens of dietary origin, the lignans and isoflavonoids. These compounds which mainly occur in soya-bean and other similar components have been shown to influence not only sex hormone metabolism and biological activity but also intracellular enzymes~ protein synthesis, growth factor action, malignant cell proliferation and angiogenesis in a way that makes them strong candidates for a role as cancer protective compounds. The present work is concerned with the protective role of soya-bean against the, pathological, histochemical and immunological changes induced by antiprotozoal drug (Flagyl) and/or pesticide (Temik) in liver,. small intestine, spleen and blood of mice. The experiments were conducted using sixty tnIce divided into SIX groups, 10 mice each. Mice of group I and II served as negative and positive controls, respectively. Those of groups III and IV served as flagyl and flagyllsoya-bean treated groups, respe’ctively. Animals of groups V and VI served as temik and temik-soya-bean treated groups respectively. Gastric intubation was used for oral administration of the insecticide and the antiprotozoal drug. While soya flour was mixed at 30% with the standard diet.
