Abstract The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of different doses of LVMgin controlling asthma exacerbations and to compare this with the bronchodilator effect of LV.aminophylline in children poor respohders to nebulized high dose J)2-adrenergi~ agonists and LV corticosteroids. Sixty asthmatic children aged 6 to 15 years (with a mean 9.4±3.7years) were studied while fifteen healthy children of matched age and sex served as controls. Patients were enrolled in the study whose forced expiratory volume in one second (FEVIJ remained less than 60% (% predicted) 30 minutes after the end of three nebulized doses of salbutamol and LV. dexamethazone. These patients were randomly assigned into four groups each including 15 patients, they received either LV.· magnesium sulphate 25mg/Kg over 30 minuts (group n, LV. magnesium sulphate 40mg/Kg over 30 minutes (group II), N aminophylline 5mg/Kg over 30 minutes (group III) or LV infusion of saline as placebo over 30 minutes (group N). |
