Abstract

There is controversy about the effect of different etiologies of infertility
on sperm morphology.
. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the types of abnormal
sperms associating different etiologies of male infertility.
The study was carried out on 43 infertile patients divided into 3
groups.
Group (1) varicocele group (23 patients)
Group (2) infection group (7 patients)
Group (3) others group (13 patients)
For each of these patients, semen samples were collected and examined.
Air-dried slides were prepared. The slides were stained with Papanicolau
stain and examined under oil immersion lens.
H:e;id, neck, tail and multiple anomalies were recorded. Head anomalies
included tapered, doubled, amorphous, large and small. Neck
anomalies recorded were bent necks and cytoplasmic droplets. Tail
anomalies were coiled, short, double, thick, thin and absent.
There was no significant difference in morphology between the 3
. groups, although the number of tapered heads were higher in the varicocele
group (16.70) than in the infection group (9.86) and the others
group (13.85).
