Abstract

This work was cai-sied out at the Experimental farm of the Department of Animal Production, Faculty of Agriculture, Kafr El-Sheikh, Tanta University. The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of three levels of Zeranol (Ralgro) on the performance of lambs through the experimental periods (1 80 days). In this experiment, sixteen growing male Rahmany lambs, about 7 months of age and 20 Kg body weight were divided into 4 groups:- 1- group 1 : Served as control group without implantation. 2- group 2: Was implanted with 12 mg Zeranol per animal at the beginning of the experiment (G2). 3- group 3: Was implanted with 12 ing Zeranol per animal twice, at the beginning and at 91 days of the experiment (G3). 4- group 4: Was implanted with 24 mg Zeranol per animal at the beginning of the experiment (G4). This experiment consisted of two periods (90 days for both periods). The treated groups were implanted subcutaneously at the base of the left ear. Eight digestibility trials were carried out, four were done after six weeks of the first implantation, and the others four were done after six weeks of the second implantation for group (3). All groups were fed the basal ration which was consisted of concentrate mixture (CM) and rice straw (RS). Daily feed allowances were given according N.R.C. (1 985).
