Abstract This study was conducted on 30 patients with unilatera1 inguinal hernias in pediatric age group 25 males 83.3OIo and 5 females, (1 6.7%).All patients were subjected to history taking from parents, complete physical examination and the necessary laboratory investigation.Eighteen patients were reguraly followed lip for a period of 2-6 months following laparoscopic evaluation of contralateral sid while remaining twelve patients were followed up regularly for a peroid of 2-4 months. The age incidence in our study ranged from 1.5 months to 84 months with a mean age 28 months and about 50% of patients were between 3 months to 20 months. Ninteen patients had their hernias on the right side (63.s0/0) while eleven patients had their hernias on the left side (36.7%).In 24 patients (80%) the morthers complianed of inter mittent groin swelling. In 2 patients (6.7%) the mothers complained of constant groin swelling, while the swelling was discovered accidently in 4 patients (13.3%) during routine examination for recurrent abdominal colic. 4 patients 13.3% had history of recurrent cough in addition to the swelling, 2 patients(6.7%) had history of irreducibility. |
