Abstract

Conduct disorder is one of the most common disruptive behavioral disorders of childhood. The essential feature of conduct disorder is a repetitive and persistent pattern of behavior in which either the basic rights of others or major age appropriate societal norms or rules are violated. The behaviors must be present for at least six month to qualify for the diagnosis. The disorder is more common in boys than in girls. Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders fourth edition, divides conduct disorder into two types with respect to age of onset: childhood onset type, and adolescent onset type. The young CD children believed that they are the criminals of future in their society because of the difficulty in treatment and persistent course. No single factor can account for CD, but a variety of bio­ psychosocial factors contribute to the development of the disorder. Conduct disorder have proved to be associated with substance abuse and multiple psychiatric disorders, also with chronic organic diseases and disabilities. Management of CD is preferred to be done by multisystemic programs involving all available sources as family, school, peer, and community. .. ,”-’-’ The study was conducted aiming at estimating the prevalence of CD among secondary school children and to detect some of its determinants in Alexandria Governorate. To fulfill this aim, the study was conducted on a sample of 1141 secondary school children in Alexandria Governorate using the multistage stratified random sample. The study was conducted in seven educational zones in Alexandria Governorate, from each educational zone, a male and a female public and private secondary schools were chosen, at random. From each selected school a first grade class was selected at random, forming a total of 28 classes. For the execution of this work a structured self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data about: I-General characteristics of the studied sample: this included data about age, sex, type of school, and socioeconomic status of the family. 2-0ther data collected from the sample included: school performance, reasons of absenteeism, hobbies, having friends, smoking, medical history of physical and psychiatric problems, family history of psychiatric problems, and parental consanguinity. 3-Data about psychosocial factors: Thi~ included, living condition, interparental relationships, relation of the student with mother, father, teachers, and colleagues. Also this include other psychosocial stressors such as difference in treatment =:!: j L. I between brothers and sisters, appropriateness of punishment, method of punishment, hitting without reason and family violence. The Arabic version of Revised Ontario Child Health Study Scale was used to identify the children with CD. After collection of data, statistical analysis was performed using mean and standard deviation, Chi square Mantel Haenzel, odd’s ratio, and multiple stepwise logistic regression analysis. The results of the present study can be summarized as follows: !Cl The study sample included 1141 pupils from first grade in the secondary schools (public and private) in Alexandria Governorate.
