Abstract
The laryngeal mask is a new type of airway , which may be used as an alternative to either the endotracheal tube or the face-mask with either spontaneous or positive pressure ventilation. The use of the laryngeal mask airway can replace the insertion of a tracheal tube for many ambulatory surgery procedures, and thereby decrease the incidence of postoperative sore throats.The proseal laryngeal mask airway (PLMA) is a new laryngeal mask device with a modified cuff to improve seal, and a drainage tube to provide a channel for regurgitated fluid and gastric tube placement .
