المستخلص Interest of children of special need generally, and of hearing impairment specially, depends on the fact that the human being depends essentially on his senses to deal with the environment around him. Through these senses his feelings from his experiences, thus, the loss of one of these senses, even partly, affects negatively on his personality, and on the infonnation he has, it limits his experience World and deprives him from some Sources from which the forms his personality. There is no doubt that the hearing impaired child, his behavior, his depriration from language make him different and strange from others, this affects his self concept and leads him to isolation. Through rounding on the studies that, deal with self concept of hearing impaired children, it is proved that there is a negative singificant relation between negative parental attitudes and self acceptance for those children other studies assert that if the family system _ the parentsaccepts the child’s impairment, and knows how to deal with him this affects his self concept positively. This can be explained from the special education point of view in that the hearing impaired child exaggerates the family stress, and becomes to be a start for a chain of psychological pains that may be unbearable. The parents arc always Ioqkjog for a normal chikI who Is considered be their extension in life, ad inwhom they see their futun: project in which they invest their psychological Jove. It becomes to the a trauma to givebiIth to an impaired <:biId.itIlpens the door to seIf~blame, -------------------------------------/ -_. ~.-.. ~ I I to trust destruction, to throw accusations and destray the family system and its bach bone. It’s not easy to study the child with hearing impairment away from his family because it is the first source to take care of him, for this, the hearing impaired child is in bad need for family therapy programs, because the child’s SUccess or failure in social adjustment is not associated with the child’s characteristics but also with his family, and how it their to reach the maximum level of social adjustment. Studies assert that the move the family gets use from the child’s program, the move the program’s effectiveness are more sUccessful in the impaired child. Counseling the parents is justified in that it is essential and importan- t in the c- hild’s life, and the family should be the first environment to face the child’s problems and his impainnent. Consequently the family members participation m the child programs play an important role in planning to his bringing up, and building trust bridges and in creating a fueling of responsibility, and in helping to understand his needs, and to CODHllumcatewith the child effectively, and to them that the positive expectancies of parents affuct positively the hearing impaired child’s say COncept, and his eValuation his abilities, on the contrast, it is possible to get USeof this truth to amend our expectancies towards the impaired, so he can correct his behavior. Thus. it becomes obvious that lbe study to improve the hearing impaired children self concept is very important. The study problem : The hearing impaired children have negative self concept about them selves compared to their normal peers, and that the family system members play an important role in that. Thus the study problem is formed in that it tries to improve the negative self concept for the hearing impaired children through using family therapy, and to detennine its effectiveness in improving self concept. The study problem isformed in this equation : what is the effectiveness of family therapy in improving self concept for hearing impairment children? Are there significant differences in the program effect for the hard hearing and the deaf children? Can family therapy effect extent to the follow up after applying the program. The study Aim: This study aims to test the possibility of improving self concept of hearing impainnent children (the deaf. the hard hearing). The study terms : Family therapy : It is the therapy that considers the family an integrated unit that contains systems, disorders in the family to change these COmmunications in and outside the family system to achieve family adjustment. Self concept: It’s a whole sight of one’s perception of himself: it is formed through interaction between man and the environment with its experiences towards his attitudes and his sides of personality, and how he accepts them. .......... --...- Hearing imp, irment children: - The deaf. : They are the children who lose hearing sense from birth or before learning talk, so they can’t contact normally to educational and social needs in hearing environment, except through known communication media. - The hard of hearing children : are those who suffer from partly impainnent in hearing so they can not respond normally to educational and social needs, except through using helping media. The study tools : 1- Self concept scale. 2- An observation list of child behavior. 3- A self report (for parents) about the child. 4- Pictured intelligence test. 5- Family therapy program. The study sample: It contains (32) children from the deaf, the hard hearing children aged from (9-12) YEARS. They are divided to two groups (deaf group _ hard of hearing group) : - The deaf experimental group (8) children and their families. - The deaf control group (8) children and their families. - The hard of hearing experimental group (8) children and their families. - The hard of hearing control group (8) children and their families. ~---------------------~----------_..---, -~ ... ~. ~-\ , The hypotheses : 1- There are significant statistically differences in the mean of degrees the deaf experimental group degrees and the mean of the deaf control group degree on the self concept scale after the program for the side of the experimental group. 2- There are significant statistically differences in the mean of degrees the hard of hearing experimental group and the mean of the hard hearing control group degree on the self concept scale after the program for the side of the experimental group. 3- There are significant statistically differences in the mean degrees of the deaf experimental group and the deaf control group on the self concept scale after the follow up for the side of the experimental group. 4- There are significant statistically differences in the mean degrees of the hard hearing experimental group and the hard hearing control group on the self concept scale after the foHow up for the side of the experimental group. 5- There are significant statistically differences in the mean of degrees the deaf experimental group on the self concept scale in the after and the foHow up application for the side of the after up. 6- There are significant statistically differences in the men of degrees of the hard of hearing experimental group and the hard hearing control group on the self concept scale in the after and the follow up application for the side of after up. 7- There are significant differences in the mean degree of the deaf experimental group and the hard of hearing experimental group on the self concept scale after the ptogram for the side of the hard ofhearing. 8- There are significant differences in the mean degree of the deaf experimental group and the hard of hearing experimental group on the - -u-”. self concept scale after the follow up for the side of the hard ofhearing experimental. - - ---:-=,”” i, ” The statistical styles: 1- Variance analysis. 2- ”T” test. The study boundaries: The study and its results are bounded by its sample, tools, and the statistical styles used in it. The study results : The results reveal that the first, the second, the third, the fourth, . hypotheses are affirmed, but the fifth, the sixth the seventh and the eight are not. The results are discussed in the light .of the theoretical background and the previous. |
