Abstract The present work aimed at delineating the differences in the eco logical factors that may predispose to malnutrition in urban and rural areas in order to identify the infant and children at risk of malnutri tion in both communities. Three tools were used:a designed and pretested questionnaire, anthropometric measurement and clinical examination. This study was a cross-sectional study which was carried out in three Day Care Centres in Alexandria showing three different socioecono mic standards and in Abbis (2) health centre after calling the children from their houses according to our statistical design. A group of 300 children were examined, 153 children from urban Day Care Centres in Alexandria and147 children from Abbis (2) village. Analysis of the collected data showed the following results.
